Inspire Your Creativity
At Monmouth College, you will find a fine and performing arts community that is seriously creative. The arts are valued at Monmouth, so much so that they are part of the general education curriculum, along with Monmouth’s unique Integrated Studies requirement that emphasizes Global Perspectives, Reflections, and Citizenship. Through art, theatre, and music, our students are able to express their creativity, and in turn, vitalize the campus community.
Ignite Your Potential
Monmouth’s distinctive small-college setting allows our students to work closely with faculty members to receive the best training and instruction possible. Our fine arts faculty are acclaimed performers and artists, and they can help you reach your potential. Along with our talented faculty, we have recently constructed or renovated facilities that will help bring out your best.
Engage Your Future
At Monmouth College, the fine and performing arts and the liberal arts go hand in hand. Immersion in the arts is an important part of a well-rounded education, encouraging engagement from our students and assisting their academic growth. Many of our majors in these areas go on to fulfilling careers as working artists. The arts have also proved to be great complements for students who choose to major in other areas. The overall Monmouth experience leads our students toward rich and productive lives.
Since 2009, the art, theatre, and music departments have received funding to support “Seriously Creative”—a month-long celebration in October that includes visiting artists, on-campus events, and a culminating weekend immersion of the arts in Chicago or St. Louis. Select students who exemplify quality behaviors and achievements in the arts are eligible to attend.
The Monmouth College Pipe Band is an important symbol of the college’s Scottish heritage. For more than a half century, the Pipe Band has performed at commencement, parades, athletic contests, and other college events. The continued growth of the band is fostered through the recruitment of piping and Highland drumming talent. During recent years, the ability level of the Pipe Band members has ranged from the intermediate level to the competitive “open-professional” level. The Pipe Band is also proud to boast members who have won both world and national championships. The college offers a limited number of scholarships (up to full tuition) for individuals with the ability to play, teach, and assume leadership roles in the Pipe Band.
Frequently, students organize separate ensembles, such as a cappella groups and improvisational comedy troupes. Though membership and level of activity vary by year, these ensembles often perform in the coffeehouse and other popular campus venues. Interested students are urged to speak to a member of the fine and performing arts faculty or senior students.
Only accepted students are eligible for Fine Arts scholarships. Auditions and portfolio reviews are held throughout the academic year. If an alternative date needs to be scheduled, it must be before March 1. For audition and portfolio review dates, scholarship requirements, and other related information, please contact:
