Program Requirements

Requirements for the French Major:

A major in French consists of nine courses beyond the 102 level including:

  • FREN 201: Intermediate French (or equivalent)
  • FREN 210: Intermediate Grammar and Composition
  • FREN 220: Conversation and Cinema

(210 and 220 are half semester courses)

Study abroad is highly recommended.

Requirements for the French Minor:

French Minor — A minor in French consists of a minimum of five courses/16 semester hours beyond the 102 level including:

  • FREN 201: Intermediate French (or equivalent)
  • FREN 210: Intermediate Grammar and Composition
  • FREN 220: Conversation and Cinema

(210 and 220 are half semester courses)

Electives for the French Major/Minor:

  • FREN 252: Culture, Folklore, and Historical Background of the French-speaking World
  • FREN 315: French Writing and Grammar
  • FREN 325: Business French
  • FREN 332: Perspectives in French Literature (Theatre/Prose/Poetry)
  • FREN 424: Francophone Literature
