Business Leadership Program

March 20-22, 2020

Join us for a three-day, immersive program at Monmouth College for high school students interested in business programs and careers

About the Program

The program will begin with check-in at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, and will conclude after lunch on Sunday, March 22. Overnight accommodations and all meals will be provided to participating students free of charge!

Presented by Monmouth College business faculty and current students, the program will include:

  • Workshops and lectures on finance, accounting, leadership and management
  • A shark-tank style activity promoting entrepreneurship
  • Marketing simulation
  • Guest speakers
  • One-on-one time with a financial coach
  • Social activities with current students

2:30pm Team assignments  Teams of 3-4 will become acquainted and participate in introductory activities   
3:30pm Leadership Lecture   
4:30pm Team discussions    Self-assessment and team assessment of leadership abilities and styles 
5:30pm Dinner  
7:00pm Motivational speakers   
9:00pm Snack  
9:30pm Challenge 1: Escape Game  Teams will participate in an “escape game”. This will be a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand.  Players are given a set time limit to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the room(s).

10:00am  Challenge 2: Marketing Simulation

In a six quarter game, each team will be fighting for marketshare in a competitive bicycle manufacturing industry. Each team will have to develop product, open sales/distribution facilities, promote their product, and optimize pricing in order to win the most market share

1:00pm  Economics Lecture   
2:00pm Challenge 3: Resource limitations  Given a finite amount of resources (often surplus or inadequate), each team will be given the task of developing the boat most capable of floating and withstanding “hardship”. Teams will learn the necessity of trade, barter, leadership, and compromise 
4:30pm  Entrepreneurship Guest Speaker 
5:30pm  Challenge 4: “Business Plan”  Introduce the “culminating” challenge in which students will write a business plan for a proposed entrepreneurial venture… think “Shark Tank” 
6:00pm Dinner  
7:00pm Challenge 4 Work Time   
8:30pm Meet with Financial “Coach”   
9:30pm Group Movie
