Data science equips students with a background in statistics, machine learning, programming, algorithms, data analysis and data visualization. The program draws on Monmouth’s rich liberal arts environment so that students gain expertise in areas where data scientists make a difference and develop a breadth of knowledge needed to make sound, ethical decisions from and with data.
Data science majors are required to take courses outside of their department so that they not only develop the technical expertise to collect, curate, process data and model data, but also communicate their work to others who are not data scientists.
In addition to the technology sector, data science majors can pursue careers in finance, health care, marketing and pharmaceuticals.
