As Library Science is interdisciplinary, any and all previous undergraduate coursework is applicable. The LS pre-professional track offers ENGL 490 as a survey course to librarianship. The history and function of libraries in society as well as detailed theoretical examinations into user services, the organization of information, information literacy, preservation, and collection development are considered.
Related coursework in the area of Archival Management may be applied in HIST 190 and HIST 290. In these courses, students examine the theories of Archival science: appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation, and promotion of historic document collections. HIST 290 is a practicum course where students complete hands-on projects in the Monmouth College Archives.
