Anders Nelson ’14
With plans for graduate school, a doctorate in mathematics, and teaching at a small liberal arts college, it is easy to see that Anders Nelson has been heavily influenced by Monmouth College.
Major: Religion & Math
Hometown: Galesburg, Illinois
Class Year: 2014
"The one-on-one discussions that I've had with my professors have helped me choose the direction that I want to go with my math degree, something that you won't get at some of the larger universities," says Nelson.
"I have grown in my faith, become more mentally focused, developed my leadership skills, and built friendships that will last a lifetime."
Heavily involved in extracurricular activities, Nelson is especially passionate about his membership in the student ministry organization Ignite, which he says has given him strength to grow as an individual and has allowed him to become the person he has always wanted to be. His interest in faith traditions was also sparked by a course focusing on Buddhism. "It was extremely interesting and showed me a side of religion that I had never seen before," noted the religion and math major.
